Ian Fleming

James Bond was created by Ian Fleming. Mr. Fleming was inspired by many individuals he met during his time in the Naval Intelligence Division and 30 Assault Unit during the Second World War. 1)

They are Casino Royale, Moonraker, Diamonds Are Forever, From Russia with Love, Dr. No, Goldfinger, For Your Eyes Only, Thunderball, The Spy Who Loved Me, On Her Majesty's Secret Service, You Only Live Twice, The Man with the Golden Gun, Octopussy and The Living Daylights. 2)

One-hour television show

In 1954, CBS paid Ian Fleming $1,000 (in 2019 it would equal $9,520) to adapt Casino Royale into a one-hour television show as a part of its Climax! series. 3)

Geoffrey Boothroyd

Geoffrey Boothroyd was a Bond enthusiast and gun expert who criticized Fleming's choice of firearm for Bond (Beretta 418). He suggested the swap for a 7.65mm Walther PPK, and this exchange of arms made it to Dr. No. 4)

The actors

Sean Connery starred in five movies, and George Lazenby left the role after just one appearance. The role passed on to Roger Moore, who played Bond a further six times over 12 years before being replaced by Timothy Dalton for two films. Afterward, Pierce Brosnan took over and remained Bond for four movies through 2002. Finally, in 2006, the role was given to Daniel Craig. 5)
