Elon Musk is an American entrepreneur and philanthropist, founder or co-founder of PayPal, SpaceX, Tesla, Neuralink, and Boring Company of South African descent (he holds South African, Canadian, and American citizenship). He is currently CEO and CTO of SpaceX and CEO and Chief Architect of Tesla Inc. As of January 2021, his wealth is $188.5 billion (Bloomberg), $189.7 billion (Forbes), and Musk is ranked first on the list of the world's richest people by Forbes magazine. 1)

Origin

Elon Musk was born to Errol and Maye Musk in Pretoria, South Africa, where he lived until he moved to Canada at the age of 17. He has citizenship from South Africa, Canada, and the U.S. He has been living in Los Angeles, California, since 2020. 2)

Maye Musk

Elon's mother Maye Musk recently resumed her modeling career. She is a certified dietician and published a book in 2019 titled “A Woman Makes a Plan: Advice for a Lifetime of Adventure, Beauty, and Success.” 3)

Elon's genius as a child

By the age of nine, Musk was said to have read the entire Encyclopedia Britannica. At the age of 12, Musk taught himself to write computer code and developed a video game named Blastar, which he later sold to PC and Office Hardware magazines for $500. 4)

Elon was bullied as a child

Musk was the youngest and smallest boy in his class, and he was constantly abused. He ended up in the hospital once when he was thrown down a flight of stairs by a group of boys and said that at one point he was “almost beaten to death.”  He learned karate, judo, and wrestling as a result. 5)

Musk has claimed that he would have named the company Faraday if they couldn’t secure the rights to Tesla. This name is after British scientist Michael Faraday, who was born in what is now Elephant and Castle in 1791. 7)

In Iron Man 2, Musk made a guest appearance. He has also starred in series including The Simpsons, Big Bang Theory, and South Park as himself. 8)

Avoidance of Military

To avoid mandatory military service in South Africa, Musk enrolled at Queen's University in Ontario, Canada, but did not complete his degree there. Instead, in 1992, he left for the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia to study business and physics. He earned a degree in economics from Wharton School and a degree in physics from the College of Arts and Sciences. 10)

Musk served on two business councils for Donald Trump in 2017

Musk agreed to participate in the Trump’s Manufacturing Jobs Initiative and the Strategic and Policy Forum but withdrew from both positions in protest of the president's removal of the U.S. from the Paris climate change deal. 11)

Musk has six kids, all of which are boys. Justine Wilson, Musk's first wife, gave birth in 2004 to a pair of twins (Griffin and Xavier) and in 2006 to a set of triplets (Damian, Saxon, and Kai). 13)

Born in May 2020, Musk and Grimes named their baby boy X Æ A-12 and changed it to X AE A-XII later that month. 14)

Musk sent a Tesla sportscar into space

As the cargo for the launch of his Falcon Heavy rocket, Musk sent his own Tesla sports car. The vehicle, which is in orbit around the sun, can be tracked on whereisroadster.com. 15)

“The Tesla stock price is too high imo,” the CEO of Tesla tweeted on May 1, prompting the value of the company to plunge by $13 billion. 16)

The BMW 320I was the first car Musk ever purchased. In 1994, he bought the car for $1,400 and raced it for two years before one of its wheels fell off. 17)

After becoming sick of struggling with Los Angeles traffic, Musk formed a company

Musk tweeted in December 2016, “I am going to build a tunnel boring machine and just start digging…” By January 2017, a dialogue was underway with regulatory bodies. The business website states that traffic must either go up or down to minimize gridlock. The Boring Business claims that the solution lies in the construction of tunnels, instead of investing in flying cars. 18)

The Crew Dragon was launched by SpaceX on May 30, 2020, marking the first time astronauts have flown to orbit aboard a spacecraft designed and run by a private corporation. 19)

Musk is currently ranked 25th on Forbes' list of the world's Most Powerful People. 20)
