Assassin's Creed

Series of action-adventure games

Assassin's Creed is series of action-adventure games with an open world, consisting of games released for consoles and personal computers, side games released for portable consoles, books, comics, and short films. A cinema film under the same title has also been released. The series was created by Ubisoft Montreal, while spin-offs and games for portable consoles were created by Gameloft and Gryptonite Studios. All games were released by Ubisoft. The first game in the series was released on November 13, 2007. The background of the games is the struggle between the Templar Order and the Assassin Brotherhood. 1)

It Was Originally Proposed As A Reboot Of The Prince Of Persia Series

If you feel familiar with all the parkour, running, and jumping, it could be because you were playing Prince of Persia. Initially, “Prince of Persia: Assassin” was basically Assassin's Creed. It was supposed to be a spinoff of Prince of Persia: Sands of Time. However, since their story did not concentrate too much on the prince, Ubisoft rejected the design idea of “Prince of Persia: Assassin.” 2)

Assassins are based on an Islamic sect known as the Hashshashin Order

The order the assassins belong to in the first game is based on a real community called the Nizari Ismailis Ḥashshāshīn, an order that existed far back in history. They were based in Syria and Persia and opposed the Turks of Seljuk. 3)

Inspired by Vladimir Bartol's Novel, "Alamut"

This is a link to the actual assassins of Ḥashshāshīn that the game was based on. The 1938 novel “Alamut” is about the Ḥashshāshīn and Hassan-i Sabbāh, their chief. Many of the book's elements went into the game. For instance, an alternative translation from a sentence in the novel is the saying “nothing is true; everything is permitted” 4)

Masyaf Is A Real Place

Masyaf is a district in northwest Syria. The castle, which also exists, is the actual part that fans imagine when they hear “Masyaf.” It was also controlled for a time by assassins, particularly those who were part of the sect of the Nizari Ismailis. 5)
