Walmart

Walmart is an American supermarket chain founded in 1962 by Sam Walton. In 2010, the company was the world's largest retailer (turnover included). It is based in Bentonville, Arkansas, USA. For the financial year ending January 31, 2014. Wal-Mart recorded a clean profit of $16.022 billion with a turnover of $476.294 billion. 1)

Huge Share of the American Grocery Market

A large portion of the retail sector is also owned by Walmart. In reality, in 2016, they produced about 14.5 percent of all the food purchased in America. This figure is more than twice that of its closest rival (Kroger, who had about 7.2 percent of the sales). The business also owns its own in-house brand, Great Value, which is one of the nation's top-rated supermarket brands.2)

They Were Not Successful in Germany

Their efforts in China, the United Kingdom, and throughout South America have proven to be some of any retail chain's most lucrative international expansions (not just Walmart). Nonetheless this massive firm occasionally fails. They closed all their stores in Germany for example, when the chain failed to take off in this region (which also happens to have the biggest economy in all of Europe).3)

They Weren’t in All Fifty States until 1995

By 1995, the retail supergiant was not in every state. In fact, they were not even in the Northeast prior to 1990 (except for a single Sam's Club) or anywhere on the West Coast. Walmart subsequently opened several stores in California and Pennsylvania by the end of 1990, respectively. Not until the final location was located in Vermont in 1995, did they make it to all fifty states. Interestingly enough the organization decided to expand domestically before moving to all fifty states.4)

Biggest family-owned company

Walmart reigns as the biggest family-owned company worldwide.5)
