Ubisoft

Ubisoft is a French video game company based in Montreuil with many production studios around the world. Rayman Raving Rabbids, Prince of Persia, Assassin's Creed, Far Cry, Watch Dogs, Just Dance and the Tom Clancy series are among the company's video game franchises. As of March 2018, Ubisoft is the fourth-largest American and European publicly traded game company. 1)

It was founded by members of the same family

It was founded by five brothers who decided for the first few years to run the company out of their home's basement. They all loved playing video games and were able to create a business that made these kinds of games for a real future. Among them, they had numerous talents, including the ability to develop and then sell fascinating video games. 2)

In 2003, they officially changed their name

Their name was pronounced the same before 2003, but it was in reality written in two words, Ubi Soft. They made the decision to go ahead and merge both words into a single word in 2003, which became the Ubisoft name that you are so familiar with today. In addition to making a change to the name, they also streamlined their logo. 3)

It only took them a few years to become a global company

They were praised for many of the games they had made in only a few years and they were recognised around the world as one of the best gaming companies out there. 4)

In 2004, Electronic Arts attempted a hostile takeover

In December 2003, rival gaming corporation Electronic Arts acquired a 19.9 percent interest in the company. Ubisoft referred to the purchase as “hostile.” The brothers of Ubisoft admitted that they did not consider themselves in a competitive market, and employees had anticipated that an EA takeover would radically change the Ubisoft climate5).
