Bram Cohen was the first to bring BitTorrent to the world in 2001. It was a peer-to-peer file sharing protocol that allowed splitting a file into smaller bits, known as torrents. BitTorrent developed over the years and became even better. ²⁾

P2P file sharing and BitTorrent are often confused. BitTorrent is a peer-to-peer file sharing method that is, in several ways, the real one. BitTorrent differs from other P2P file sharing methods in that it splits down files into smaller chunks and simultaneously uploads and downloads them. ³⁾
