In 1979, Welsh locals Gordon Green and Glyn Hones asked who would win a marathon, a horse or a man. This marathon started as a way to overcome a pub dispute. ¹⁾

An annual 22-mile (35.4 km) marathon has been held in Welsh Town, Wales since then, with both men and horses racing. ²⁾

The escalating jackpot for a runner who beats the first horse and rider starts at £500 and increases by £500 each year until it is won. It stands at £3500 for 2022. ³⁾

The first jackpot received Huw Lobb in 2004 and it reached £25,000! ⁴⁾
