Born Prematurely

Isaac Newton was born preterm and at such a small size that no one expected him to live. He may have been born up to 15 weeks early, according to estimates.1)

Lost His Parents Soon After Birth

Isaac Newton's father passed away three months before his birth. Newton's mother remarried when he was three, but his stepfather refused to let him remain with them. Newton was placed with his grandparents.2)

Loved Lists

Newton like making lists. In one case, he produced a list of all his misdeeds dating back to the age of ten. “Threatening my father and mother Smith to burn them and the home over them,” he wrote of his disdain for his stepfather.4)
