Black apples

Black apples exist! They are, in fact, very dark purple, but they are named Black Diamond. It is an extremely rare variety of apples from the Hua Niu family (Chinese Red Delicious). Black Diamonds grow in Tibet in the small mountain village of Nyingchi. The reason for their original color is a difference in temperature between day and night. 1)

Only crabapple is native to North America

There are about 7500 varieties of apples grown around the world, and 2500 varieties in the United States. Out of that huge number of grown apples only one variety is native to North America. It is a crabapple.2)

Apples are very healthy

Apples are a very healthy fruit. They don't contain fat, don't contain sodium, and have absolutely no cholesterol.3)

Over 8,000 varieties

There are over 8,000 varieties of apples. The apple is the most varietally diverse fruit in the world. 4)

Important nutrients

The skin of the apple contains very important nutrients. It contains vitamins A and C, folic acid as well as calcium, potassium, iron, phosphorus, and antioxidants. 5)

Quercetin

Apples contain quercetin. This compound is an antioxidant and helps deliver more oxygen to the lungs. 6)
