Major League Baseball

Major League Baseball (MLB) is the most important and oldest American baseball league. There are 30 teams participating in it. It consists of two leagues: the National League and the American League, each divided into three divisions. 1)

History

Professional baseball has its roots in the first professional team in 1869, the Cincinnati Red Stockings. With eight professional clubs, the National League was founded in 1876. Then, in 1901, another baseball league was created - the American League. The first American League had eight teams in it. 2)

Players

There is a 25-man roster and a 40-man roster for each Major League Baseball team. The 25-man team has players who will play for the team in games and travel. The 40-man roster has all the players from the 25-man roster as well as the additional 15 players that are on a major league contract that can replace any player from the 25-man team at any time. 3)

Teams

There are 30 MLB teams. The American League and the National League are evenly split. There are 15 clubs in the American League and the National League also has 15 teams. The East, the Middle and the West are split into three divisions for each of the leagues. 4)

There are 108 double red stitches on every official MLB baseball. They are stitched by hand. 5)
