Hedgehogs

Winter sleep

Hedgehogs go into winter hibernation. When the temperature outside the window drops, hedgehogs go into winter sleep and become dull. Their home is a tiny burrow in which the temperature remains constant, so they can easily survive the harsh weather conditions on the ground. 1)

Not native to Americas

Hedgehogs are unusual small animals that inhabit Europe, Asia, Africa, and New Zealand. However, they are not found natively on American or Australian soil. 2)

Pregnancy

Hedgehog pregnancy lasts from 5 to 6 weeks and then the female gives birth to 1 to 5 baby hedgehogs, after three weeks they open their eyes. 3)

Hoglets

Baby hedgehogs are called hoglets. 4)

Bad eyesight

Hedgehogs have very little vision, their main sense is smell and hearing. It is through smell that they sense danger and are able to react quickly enough to danger. 5)
